Our Story

Who we are

hearing.tools is the outcome of a collaboration between researchers at Macquarie University and The University of Melbourne, as part of a HEARing Collaborative Research Centre project aligned with H:EAR | Hearing, Education, Application, Research at Macquarie University.

The main focus of this initiative is to provide hard of hearing adults and their families with practical, consistent, and verified information that can support discussions surrounding treatment options.

The information resources available on hearing.tools have been developed with extensive input from clinicians and hard of hearing adults. In particular, we gathered audiology clinical leaders from the largest cochlear implantation clinics across Australia to form an Expert Guidance Group for CI in adults. This group was instrumental in developing the CI-specific resources. Further insight was gathered through surveys, interviews, focus groups, and interactive workshops. Information available on this website is independent from, but compatible with, the different hearing device manufacturers.
